My name is Lizane and I am your online midwife. I have been a midwife for over a decade with a ton of experience in both public and private hospitals so I can really share first-hand knowledge of both environments as they can differ in many ways.
As a mom I share my own experiences – I have toddler twins (so I’m also here for the moms of multiples) but I’ve been where you are very recently and totally get the phase you find yourself in and I know that the theory sometimes does not speak to the practical implications and that is okay. We all just try to do the best we can while juggling households, work, romance, friendships, groceries, mom guilt and much much more.
I want you to know that as a midwife I can hold your hand throughout this journey but as a mom, I understand this journey and with twins on top of it, I also get the dynamics of bringing more than one newborn home so all in all, I’ve got you covered. We also have a very special section where moms share their birth stories because whether it was a positive or less positive experience, these are our stories and sharing makes us feel like we are not alone.

I have a passion for caring for pregnant moms and newborns. I completed my B.Cur Honours degree in Nursing at the University of Johannesburg. A couple of years later we relocated to Cape Town where I obtained a Master’s degree in Midwifery at the University of Cape Town, under the supervision of two leading experts in their fields, and both highly acclaimed on an international level.
Our research focused on adolescent mothers and their childbirth experiences – a group that is very close to my heart because they are incredibly vulnerable and don’t always have a voice of their own. I presented my research on the childbirth experience of adolescent mothers at local conferences (SOMSA) and international conferences (ICM) and also had my research published in the British Journal of Midwifery.
The research in this field is very limited and I continue to be an advocate for these mothers and to raise awareness for young mothers, something I also hope to add to this platform in the near future. I am a life-long learner and actively busy with ongoing research in my field in order to stay up to date with the latest evidence and to also share that information with you.
In between I wanted to acquaint myself more with the business side of things and get my hands dirty and I completed an MBA at Stellenbosch University Business School. I ended up working in the startup environment while running my Antenatal Course after hours and on weekends but am finally able to follow my passion for helping moms better prepare, on a full-time basis.
